Natural Gas vs Alternative Fuels

Although natural gas is a popular energy choice in areas where it is available (see City/Town Gas Territory link), it is not the only choice, particularly in New Hampshire, where fuel oil is used to heat approximately 50% of NH homes. Natural gas is used in approximately 15 % and propane in about 10%. Electricity, wood, kerosene, coal and others make up the balance of residential heating fuel choices. Industrial users may also choose heavier No. 6 residual oil as an alternative to natural gas.

Try the convenient fuel quantity and fuel cost conversion calculators to see how your fuel choices compare with alternatives.
